Information belongs to the people

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), enacted in 1966, is a federal law in the United States that grants the public the right to access records from any federal agency. It is based on the principle that the public should be informed about the actions of its government, ensuring transparency and accountability in its operations. Under FOIA, agencies are required to disclose any requested information unless it falls under one of nine exemptions which protect interests such as personal privacy, national security, and law enforcement. By enabling citizens to learn about the workings of their government, the FOIA promotes informed citizenry, holds the government accountable, and ensures the democratic principles upon which the U.S. is founded.

Our Team FOAI Stream is a dedicated team of activists who guide the submission, tracking, and litigation of public information requests under the Freedom of Information Act. While we have a niche expertise in small local governments, we offer assistance for requests at every level.

What do we do with the information obtained? We share the information through a diverse network of agencies and social media outlets, allowing as many eyes to see the information as possible. The information is ours - we’ve already paid for it in tax dollars.
